Sonya and Layla Go Camping

In Sonya and Layla Go Camping, an evening-length work incorporating live performance and video, robbinschilds uses prosaic repetition as a springboard into a playful exploration of craft in relation to choreography and (Intelligent) design. Inspired in part by Jacques Rivette’s 1974 film Celine and Julie Go Boating, the piece also investigates the multifaceted nature of collaborative creation and allows for a fluid interplay between viewing and performing. The work as a whole follows a triptych structure, and is comprised of a string of MacGuffins, a sequence of seemingly arbitrary events, which eventually accumulates to unveil its own absurdist logic.
