robbinschilds was formed by movement artists Sonya Robbins and Layla Childs in 2003.  The company, which was founded on the artistic director’s shared interest in performance and installation, is focused on presenting highly visual time-based works that explore the intersection between architecture and human movement.  Recent performances include: “Are you there G--D? It’s me, Heavy Meta.” at the Kitchen (Ridykeulous, June 2007) and at Judson Memorial Church (Movement Research, May 2007), Laugh Dance (March 2007), made in collaboration with Brooklyn-based art band Japanther, presented by The Ballroom, Marfa, Texas; Seriously Heavy (i hurt myself hurting you) (June 2006), a site-reactive work presented at the Autumn Skate Bowl in Greenpoint, Brooklyn; Half Space (March 2005) presented by Dance Theater Workshop at the Bessie Schönberg Theater; and BROQUE (March 2004), presented by Triskelion Arts. The company has also performed at Dance Space Project at St. Mark’s Church (Food for Thought, January 2004) and in April 2005, presented a site-specific adaptation of BROQUE at Fritz Haeg’s Sundown Salon performance series in Los Angeles. In addition to their live work, robbinschilds’ video art has been exhibited at Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid, Spain (September 2007), Taxter and Spengemann gallery (March 2007), LACE: Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, (February 2007) and will be screened as part of the BAM Next Wave series this December. robbinschilds has worked with the art collective Chicks on Speed, choreographing the group’s 30-minute video piece Visitors, which premiered at the Deitch Gallery in April of 2005, and is also currently collaborating, with Japanther on a rock opera that will premiere in November at the Performa 07 festival in New York City.  robbinschilds will premier  C.L.U.E., an evening length performance and video installation piece this December at P.S.122.
